让学生爱上英语课的小方法
适当导入英语国家的文化背景,培养学生的跨文化交际意识
有一次,我给学生讲了一个笑话:Once an American was visiting the homeof a Chinese. As the visitor saw the host’s wife, he said, “Your wifeis very beautiful.”The host smiled and said:“Where? Where?” The American was puzzled what to say. At last he had to say, “Everywhere,everywhere.”Now, it’s the host’s turn to feel puzzled.通过这个笑话,我告诉他们,要学好一门语言,了解它的文化背景也是很重要的。我鼓励他们看Outlook English.他们学到一些有用或有趣的习语,可以与大家分享。
每天,黑板上都会空出一块英语角,写上几句。My mouth is watering.(我快流口水了)。Let’s go Dutch.(AA制)。I just keep my head above water.(我生活还凑合)等等。学生们对此很感兴趣,有空都去看Outlook English。课后都把这些实用的句子,说上了口。又如:今年是狗年,我开学的第一天,给学生出了三个句子:Every dog has his day.(人人皆有得意时。)You are,indeed, a lucky dog.(你很幸运。)My father came back home dog-tired.(我父亲回到家里,累极了)。当他们知道这三个句意的时候,都觉得英语习语挺有趣的,也纷纷上网、去图书馆,去书店查找这方面的资料。这些活动无形中就让他们有了一种文化意识。
